The Stock Market Map, also referred to as the stock market heat map or tree map, serves as an informative visual representation of stock market data. In this mapping, the dimensions of each block symbolize the market share of a specific component within its respective hierarchy. Color coding is utilized to reflect the percentage change in price, indicating gains or losses. Components can vary in scope from individual stocks to broader categories such as industry groups, market sectors, or even the complete market under observation.

The Stock Market Map Professional Edition (Stock Map Pro) consolidates six distinct stock market heat maps within a single application. It encompasses the Total Market map, S&P 500 two-level map, S&P 500 flat map, Dow Jones 30 Industrial map, QQQ two-level map, and QQQ flat map.

The Total Market map monitors over 600 stocks listed on US exchanges, focusing on major domestic companies and American Depository Receipts (ADRs) with substantial market capitalizations. The S&P 500 maps track stocks within the S&P 500 index, while the DJ30 map and QQQ maps focus on Dow Jones 30 Industrial constituents and Invesco QQQ ETF stocks, respectively.

In terms of structure, stocks are organized into a tiered hierarchy: markets consist of multiple sectors, each sector contains various industries, and each industry comprises numerous individual stocks. For two-level maps, the first level presents an overview of all sectors and related industries. The second level provides a focused view of a specific sector along with its associated industries and stocks. In contrast, one-level or “flat” maps display all stocks collectively.

The Total Market map, S&P 500 map, and QQQ map utilize a two-level format where the initial level showcases all tracked sectors and industries. The second level delves into an individual sector and its corresponding stocks. Conversely, the DJ30 map, S&P flat map, and QQQ flat map are structured with a single level for simplicity.

The market data is derived from real-time quotes during trading hours and transitions to End-of-Day data post-market closure at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. The finalization of this data occurs around 8:05 p.m., coinciding with the end of after-hours trading. Market information is refreshed automatically throughout trading hours. For each listed component—whether it be a stock, industry index, sector index, or overall market—the application displays essential metrics including the latest price, price gain percentage, opening price, high and low marks, volume statistics, average volume metrics, volume strength (adjusted for elapsed intraday time), and price strength relative to other components. Furthermore, it features intraday pricing charts for every component.

For individual stocks, users are provided with comprehensive fundamental data about each company. This includes crucial financial metrics such as market capitalization, outstanding shares count, EBITDA, PEG ratio, dividend details (both forward and trailing), dividend yield and payout dates, ex-dividend dates, price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios (trailing and forward), price-to-sales ratios, short ratios, book value figures, price/book ratios, price targets, earnings per share (EPS) data (current and forward), EPS report dates, among others.
